Food in Australia

I love food, we love food, but most of all, Kaisa and I like good cheap food. Plain and simple.

Although we have not been to every restaurant and coffee shop in Australia, there are a few that have really stood out for us. Once again, Kaisa has celiac and we both eat more or less a vegetarian diet (leaning towards vegan). Therefore, some of these suggestions below may be a little one sided, but still delightful none the less.

SumoSalad – This is a great restaurant for a quick salad and actively expanding into the airports as well. The first time we ate here was at the Sydney domestic airport and it was a reasonable amount of food for a reasonable price. Small $8.50, Medium, $10.50 and a large for $12.50. The large also lets you pick between 3 or 4 different salads, which is a nice touch! This was one of the cheapest and healthiest options we found at the airport serving gluten free, lactose free, vegan, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.

Hari’s Vegetarian – You know how you come from a place like India to Australia you know that food isn’t ever going to be the same, not in texture, taste, or price. However, we were quite surprised when we came here. I mean, no food will cost the same as India but the taste was quite good! They offer different kinds of Indian food and specialty drinks. Also, wifi and

Govinda’s Pure Vegetarian – This place is like Hari’s Vegeterian but on another level. Govinda’s is located in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. At the West end location, they offer a number of dishes but the most common for Kaisa and I, is the Feast Meal. This is all you can eat Indian food for $12.90 which includes a dessert that can be refilled as well. I mean, there are other options, such as smaller plates… but we haven’t explored those options yet. They have Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten Free options available, you just have to ask. Unfortunately, the West End location can be a little difficult to find but it is upstairs on the second floor above the little cafe down on the street. It looks a little sketchy but we promise you it is worth it!

Charlies Raw Squeeze – This place is something else. I mean, we have only been to the Thornside location, but it has everything you need. They have a full supermarket of only the freshest vegetables, a food truck serving vegan burgers, a juicer with fresh smoothies and juices, as well as, a bakery next door that serves vegan goodies such as cakes and desserts. The whole block is Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free, and busy most evenings!

There are very little pictures in this one, because no matter how hard you try, a picture will never justify how good it tastes!
